Coffee table
Solid wood on top, a steel shelf below. Books down, feet up.
About
Island is the table in front of the sofa that ends up holding everything. A low steel frame works on two levels: a solid wood top, and below it a thin steel shelf for magazines, books or a basket. Corners are rounded, edges won’t catch a finger.
In a living room the coffee table is usually the first thing to get scratched. So we kept the top thick and finished it with a renewable oil; years later a light sanding brings it back to day one — or leave the marks, your call.
